Domestic Sonnet

I sleep naked & stay in bed long after you’ve gotten up
my body is an old dog now, not interested
in learning new tricks anymore. Still
the plants need watered, the kitchen needs cleaned
the living room needs vacuumed, my legs need shaved
& you need hugged, kissed, cradled a little
before I get too caught up in the day to be
soft & slow. maybe today I have work actually
& you do too. so let’s brush our teeth together
let’s eat on couch in silence while holding hands
let’s go to the front door together, you & me
we’ve got places to go now. give me a kiss on the cheek
have a good day, I love you, I love you,
we’ll sleep naked together tonight. think of me at work, please.
