Church Music

The crisp paper of the weekly church bulletin

feels like a cashmere sweater on the tips of my fingers,

solace careening through every extremity and nerve

ending as its text rings in my ears with the voice of my dad,

my body lifted and dropped gently by the sound

of his baritone voice—warm, rich, and round—

into the soft canopy of his vibrato.
