Good Math

How simple the number one sounds:

one to worry about,

one to think about,

one set of feelings to cater to

and no one else to preen or prod.

Two is shifting the focus of the number one:

one to buy for,

one to make smile,

but two knit together into something better:

a tapestry, the first stitches of a story.

Three is a different world:

a unit, a support system, the two catering to the one

and needing the one.

Triangles are the strongest shape for good reason.

The third brings new life,

but pangs of the past,

like rewinding a tape,

but watching it with new eyes.

How easy it is to take three and make room for another,

like riding a bike after a few years,

the muscles still remember and a smile creeps back to your lips

even after all that time.
