I Need To Let You Go

Content Warning: Mentions of assault.

Ohio, your roads kicked up horse shit

on my Geo Metro tires

and your boys trapped me

in the driver's seat demanding a grope because he was prom king

trapped me in my body because he had a roofie before his prison sentence

Ohio, I would say your waters flow like rivers through this blood

but the Grand River was nothing more than a trickle in my town

a sign on the bridge next to the endless tangle of breeze and no rush.

My Ohio waters are snow melted puddles where the filth of trucks pools

into the grayness of the Western Reserve

and there is always your exhaust in me

Ohio, I need to let you go

I left you a girl

and you've held her hostage

I need to let you go

but you are in the center of everything

and you look like a heart
