Carpal

Pressing foil wrappers against steering wheel
Crushing them smaller and rounder
Thinking about how Reese's perfected the ratio of chocolate to peanut butter,
But specifically with the mini cups

Left work early for an appointment
Rushing through the gridlines of metrohealth, amazed at every turn that I didn't smash into another person or car
The doctor, the orthopedic guy, pressing his thumb against the ganglion cyst below my palm, telling me that barely anything remains of it above the scaphoid bone. I've had it for about a month, but I lied and said a couple weeks, because I thought my new insurance could otherwise call it a pre-existing condition.
And he mirrored my left palm with my right, pointing out that the bone is just as prominent in both and that it's normal but unique but fine, and had me see how it moves when I pull my thumb back and then to the side and then back again.
It was 4:40 in the afternoon, and by the time I found parking and checked in, the orthopedic guy had me in and out so quick that
my parking was free

I ran out of sumatriptan this week, because it somehow slipped my mind that I can only get a refill every thirty days. If I thought about that before then I wouldn't have used it as liberally.
I've had a headache all day, either because of my sinuses or from waking up at 6am during the week and 12:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday

Left the house late for work
Looming through the sleet-coated arteries
of 176 south
amazed at every lace and weave that I didn't sideswipe a blind spot driver
Pressing thumbprints against steering wheel
Sanding them down smoother and deeper
I feel the crease at the corner of my eye take shape with certain consonant sounds
as I repeat the same words back at myself
Because it matters that I get it right the next time

Harrison Mills

Harrison Mills is currently working part time towards his MA at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, and full time as an all day breakfast hedonist.

He does not consider himself a writer, but finds a small rush of serotonin in the constant chase to put indescribable feelings & experiences into words, typically inspired by mood over message.

When not working or sleeping or missing a good Irish mule from his go-to bars or watching hour long Jimmy Eat World live sets from 1998 on youtube, he spends his free time as co-writer, vocalist and guitarist for The Grievance Club, as well as writing for his own project Simple Simon.

He is currently reading a book about The Wire and one about post-hardcore music between 1985-2007. He regrets not learning how to skateboard when his bones were young enough to handle it. You can find him on Instagram: @simple.sim_n
